Brief Introduction to Speaker: 景乃桓，美国北卡州立大学教授。1962年出生于湖北省武汉市。湖北大学学士，武汉大学理学硕士。耶鲁大学博士学位。先后在美国普林斯顿高等研究院，密执安大学，堪萨斯大学和北卡州立大学等地工作或任教。获得美国富尔布莱特学者（2004），德国洪堡学者（2005）等称号。		Place:	6号楼M213报告厅
Abstract:In this course we will present the vertex operator approach to symmetric functions. Symmetric functions figure prominently in representation theory and combinatorics. Roughly, we will talk about the following topics: 1) Preliminaries on symmetric functions 2) Schur functions and Bernstein vertex operators 3) Characters of S_n and the Murnaghan-Nakayama formula 4) Hall-Littlewood functions and their vertex operator realization 5) Plethystic operators and vertex operators 6) characters of Hecke algebras 7）Macdonald functions 8) Further applications: wreath products and other classical groups
