Abstract:Modelling on various scales becomes challenging in accurately describing the process of disease spreading. In this talk I shall briefly give an introduction to modelling approach at population/individual level. I shall give an idea of developing a multi-scale model that nests the within-host viral dynamics into the between-host transmission model, and then I present our recent work on the bidirectional coupling of between-host dynamics and within-host dynamics by including perceived risk and behavioral dynamics. The model can exhibit rich dynamic behaviors including the periodic oscillations of the solutions, the discordance of transmission dynamics and viral dynamics. It is also observed that new infections may increase with improving treatment efficacy. Further, I present main results on multi-objective optimal control problems, based on the single objective optimal control problem on between-host or within-host level. Finally I shall give concluding remarks on multi-scale modelli...
